Utah Youth Village Information

Changing troubled young lives requires love, caring and the right tools. Utah Youth Village is the only organization in Utah certified to use the Teaching-Family Model; perhaps the most thoroughly researched treatment method for troubled children in use today. Click here for more information.
The Teaching-Family Model uses sophisticated motivation systems to motivate children to learn skills which will help them become functional youth. The Teaching-Family Model is usually applied in a family-like setting such as group homes or individual Therapeutic Family Homes. The model is usually applied to emotionally disturbed children, troubled adolescents, and individuals with developmental disabilities or mental retardation.

Key components of the Teaching-Family Model include:

Family Teachers (in Group Homes) or Treatment Parents (in Therapeutic Family Homes) in each home
Intensive pre-service and in-service training of the parents
Pervasive and structured supervision of the parents by a consultant who is on-call to assist them.
The Teaching-Family Model has been successfully adapted for use in Parenting For Success classes (available to the public) and to the in-home service known as Families First.
